Trout Habitat Team Training

Signup by September 15th, to be part of the team.

Signup Here! Hello, GA Chapters,
I am getting in touch with you all about an upcoming Trout Habitat Team training that will take place after the GATU Council meeting on September 18th. This training will focus on the sedimentation survey. We are recruiting volunteers who are interested in surveying select Forest Service roads to document where and how sediment is leaving the road surface and, potentially, entering local streams.

These data are collected using the Survey123 app and are uploaded to an online mapping system that is accessible to multiple agencies and partners. This effort will help identify and justify the highest priority rehabilitation projects. We have already had great conversations with GADNR, Georgia Forest Watch and US Forest Service, and everyone is excited about the possibilities.

The training will take place within 15 – 20 min of Fish Camp at Smithgall Woods. Participants should be up for hiking and expect the training to last about 4 hours. Anyone interested can sign up at https://tu.myeventscenter.com/event/Trout-Habitat-Team-Georgia-Sedimentation-Survey-54394. Sign-ups will close on September 15th. Attendees will receive an email with more details on the training by September 16th.

If you’d be willing, please share this with your board or anyone else attending the council meeting. If your chapter is relatively close to that area, we’d really appreciate you sending the announcement to your whole chapter as well. The plan is to host a number of these trainings over the next couple of months to build a decent-sized team of volunteers. We’re looking forward to kicking it off on the 18th.

Sincerely,
Jeff Wright Southeast Project Coordinator | Trout Unlimited
